Ingredients
Ingredients
- 2 3/4 pounds large shrimp, peeled, deveined, and cooked 1 tablespoon powdered gelatin 1 teaspoon finely grated fresh horseradish 1 1/4 teaspoon coarse salt 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice 3/4 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper Prepared cocktail sauce, for serving
Directions
Arrange shrimp in a 6 1/2- to 7-cup brain-shaped mold with tails facing upwards in vertical rows.
Fill a glass bowl with 1 2/3 cups cold water; sprinkle gelatin over water and let stand 5 minutes. In a small saucepan, cook gelatin mixture over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until gelatin has dissolved. Whisk in lemon juice, horseradish, salt, Old Bay, and cayenne pepper until well combined.
Pour gelatin mixture over shrimp in mold. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing down on the surface. Fit a plate into mold and weight with cans. Refrigerate until set, about 5 hours. Invert mold onto a serving platter; serve with cocktail sauce.

Martha Stewart Member Rating: 1 stars 10/28/2019 This should work in theory, but it doesn't. All the spices stuck to the silicone mold and the gelatin was wayyyy too much. It was gross and flavorless. I wasted 2 lbs of shrimp Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 11/13/2015 Martha Stewart is my hero! She has amazing creativity and this is another example of that fact! I love making this ghoulish Halloween appetizer and watching my guest's reaction when they see it on the table! Ya gotta see my pictures at http://robynsflight.wordpress.com Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 10/28/2010 I make this every year and it is a hit! I wish I knew about the head stand idea, I will use it next year. I use tomato paste and no horseradish and I use Roasted red peppers for the veins. Love you Martha Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 10/13/2010 You can buy a head stand at a cosmetology supplier like Sally's Beauty Supply. I found the brain mold at a Halloween store called Spirit's. Hope this helps! Martha Stewart Member Rating: Unrated 10/11/2010 Where do you get the head stand and mold?
