Ingredients

Ingredients

  • One 8-ounce wheel Camembert or Brie cheese, cold
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 large Bosc pear, peeled and cut into 1/4-inch dice
  • 2 tablespoons brandy
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh rosemary, plus more for garnish
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 8 walnut halves

Directions

Slice cheese wheel in half crosswise; set aside. In a medium skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add diced pear, and cook until tender, about 3 minutes. Stir in brandy, and cook 1 minute more. Add rosemary, and stir to combine. Remove from heat, and spread pear mixture over bottom half of reserved sliced cheese wheel, reserving 2 tablespoons mixture for garnish. Transfer cheese to serving plate.

Return skillet to stove, and heat balsamic vinegar and honey until simmering. Simmer mixture until slightly thickened, about 3 minutes. Set aside to cool, about 5 minutes. Pour half the glaze over cheese and reserved pear mixture; top with remaining half of cheese wheel and pears. Drizzle with remaining glaze, and garnish with walnut halves and rosemary. Serve immediately.

This appetizer is absolutely amazing. I consistently double the portions of the pears and glaze as my guests really enjoy this. This is one of the most frequently requested appetizers from my friends and family. It is a gorgeous presentation and so delicious and fresh!

In deciding a Balsamic Vinegar, I used Bellindora Vinegar's Balsamic Apple. Yummm.
                Great recipe for entertaining.

, take them out, unwrap them, put some sliced Almonds in the bottom of the tin, then a portion of apricot jam. Be sure to put on baking sheet

Oh how anyone could not love this recipe is beyond me. I have an easier one. Just get the smaller tins of Brie or Camembert

I just served this at a party and it was a big hit. I mistakenly bought a 16 oz. wheel of camembert so I had to double the recipe... recommend putting the cheese in the freezer for a bit before cutting as it was too big to handle if soft. Recommend it!

We didn't like it at all. I made it for a baby shower and not one person was a fan. Not an inexpensive dish to make either due to the wheel of brie. I had hoped it would be the hit of the party but it was far from it. Don't bother with this one. It's almost embarassing to serve to guests. Love Martha but she missed the mark on this one for sure.

You could probably substitute the honey with an equal amount of sugar.

What can be a substitute for the honey? I am allergic to honey.
