  • 2 jalapeno peppers, seeded and finely chopped
  • 4 to 5 cloves of garlic, crushed
  • 4 pounds pork country style loin ribs, trimmed of fat and cut into cubes
  • Coarse salt and ground pepper

Add chopped jalapeno and garlic. Saute a few minutes more. Add pork and brown on both sides. Salt and pepper meat to taste. Add green chilies, pureed tomatillos and oregano. Simmer uncovered for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, stirring often until liquid is reduced. Add freshly chopped cilantro just before serving.

                Hi everyone!

The recipe has been updated with the correct ingredients. Please note that Lisa gave us a recipe that was under 10 ingredients -- salt and pepper are optional. She won fair and square. =)

                Thanks!

I too wish to address "hulababy". I am so embarrased for this person. It's pretty apparent that not only is Ms. Ruiz a talented cook but a very attractive person. Makes a person wonder if "hulababy" has other issues that have nothing to do with Ms. Ruiz's award winning recipe. Obviously the judges selected the real winner and it was Ms. Ruiz. Get back in the kitchen, "hulababy" redirect your anger and focus on your real issues.

I feel the need to address the very angry sounding person who accused this recipe winner of cheating! Since when is an OPTIONAL GARNISH considered a part of the recipe? It's an OPTION, not REQUIRED, to make the recipe work! Besides, if the judges decided this recipe met the criteria of the contest, then why aren't you attacking them? I think you need to get yourself back in the kitchen and work on a better recipe, so that next year, maybe YOU can win a fabulous trip and you won't be so BITTER!

We did have FUN at the Super Bowl. The people from Martha, Sirius and Taste of the NFL couldn't have been nicer. The recipe should read 2 jalapenos, seeded and finely chopped and only 1/4 cup of olive oil. Salt and pepper did't count as ingredients according to the contest rules. I can't wait to present the check from Taste of the NFL to my local food bank. I am very honored and grateful to have been chosen as the winner...Thank you, Lisa Ruiz

Hi, this recipe sounds fantastic... I am wondering how many jalapenos to add. It is referenced in the directions but not listed in the ingredients. Thank you... Kelly Machonis (kelly@machonis.com)
