Makes one 9-by-13-inch Blondie

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 13 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened, plus more for pan
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups packed light-brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter 9-by-13-inch cake pan; line with parchment paper, allowing 2-inch overhang. Butter parchment. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl. Put butter and brown sugar into mixer bowl; mix on medium-high until pale and fluffy. Mix in eggs and vanilla. Reduce speed to low. Add flour mixture; mix until just combined.

Spread batter into prepared dish; smooth top. Bake until a cake tester inserted into center comes out with only a few moist crumbs attached, 25 to 30 minutes. Let cool in dish 40 minutes. Lift out, and let cool completely on wire rack.

This recipe sucked. It should be 1 1/2 cups flour. I was furious that it came out like cake, rather than a blondie- which SHOULD have had the dense chewy consistency of a brownie. This was severely disappointing, and I'm sad I wasted ingredients on, what's basically, vanilla sheet cake. Most disappointing because, usually Martha Stewart provides excellent recipes. Was this a write up error?

This is a really cute idea, looks very tasty. Makes me wish I was not on a weight loss diet!

Here's a link to the explanation of how this blondie turns "dog cake."

I thought this recipe was awful-- way too much flour which made them too dry and not chewy at all. I think they would taste better with dark brown sugar instead of light. I won't make these again!

I am intrigued by the picture too, I wonder if they made a pan of regular blondies, and also a pan of regular brownies, they they cut out the figure with a large cookie cutter in the shape of the dog, if they then carefully lifted and swapped the cut outs I think it would look like this. Thats my guess!! The dog bones could be cut out as well from another pan with cookie cutters.

Is it Blondie on top of Brownie?

super cool idea, but the recipe has no relationship to the photo. Come on tell us how you did that and what all the different layers are!

How do you create the different colored layers, the dog outline on top and the dog biscuits?

These are so easy to make and really great. Chocolate chips would be too much. They're perfect as they are.
